What are stains?
A stain is a soiling on a surface e.g. on fabrics. Stains happen in different ways and have a variety of causes. There is a distinction between the basic substances that cause the stain: Fat (e.g. in edible oils or cream), protein (e.g. in blood or milk), colouring (e.g. in fruit juice or tea). There are also a range of special stains with other causes (e.g. rust or mould).
