What is the purpose of abrasive agents?

Abrasive agents act as mechanical grinding and polishing compounds in scouring cleaners, metal polishes and kitchen stove polishes. The size and hardness of the granules depends on the surface upon which they're designed to be used, so they clean without causing any damage.
